Introduction

Charlotte Jackson was at the top of her game. She was the most sought-after Bachelorette in Los Angeles, head of one of its biggest magazines and flaunted her style across the city like she ruled the world. That was until life threw her a curve ball. When Charlotte was hit with a new disease and reality, she found herself lost, angry and confused. She had no choice but to figure out how to get back on her feet, but this would not be easy…. Death seems to be the answer. Anything would be better than what she encounters.

EXCERPTS

“Facing the world was something that now terrified her. How would she ever be able to go to a restaurant, go for a run or have lunch with her mother? How could she be the Editor of a fashion magazine when she looked like a monster? Was this really her life? Charlotte cried herself to sleep that night, the night after that and every night since for the next two weeks. She stayed bottled up in her room like a convict in solitary confinement. She was safe there. No one stared, no one called her names and she didn’t have to worry about plastering makeup all over her body.”

“What made matters worse was that the patches had grown significantly since she went into a world of seclusion. Now her entire back, forearms and even fingers were covered with large white patches. By now, it had been three weeks since Charlotte locked herself in her apartment. She grabbed her phone for the first time in almost a month. “20 missed calls” flashed across the screen and countless text messages and voicemails. Most were from her mother but there was one from work that seemed urgent.”

“Hi, I’m Doctor Jenkins,” he said reaching out his hand to greet the women. Charlotte suddenly felt nervous, in his presence. She wasn’t prepared to be greeted by a hot and sexy doctor. Her eyes immediately traveled to his muscular shoulders and the way his white doctor’s coat hugged his biceps. Then she gazed over his brown eyes and soft lips.

“So Charlotte, the tests results prove that you do in fact have vitiligo” Doctor Jenkins took a deep breath before he continued. It wasn’t every day a patient came in with vitiligo. It was one of those unfortunate diseases in which the patient was affected physically, psychologically and emotionally. It was not very common in Los Angeles, so he knew Charlotte and her mother would need as much information as possible. He immediately felt a connection with the two women that he never felt with other patients.
